Palamidi, Nafplio (Argolida)

09_PALAMIDIIt is built on a 216m. high hill east of Akronafplia. It was fortified for the first time by the Venetians during the Second Venetian domination period (1686-1715) with a perfect synchronous fortification system. Palamidi is a typical fortress of baroque style, designed by the engineers Giaxich and Lasalle. In 1715 it was occupied by the Turks and remained under their rule until 1822, when the Greeks occupied it. The most important monuments are: The Castle, The temple of Saint Andreas and the Prison of Kolokotronis (the National hero of the Revolution against the Turks).
